Day 38

July 9th, 2007

So this is Kansas huh?
Today, about 30 miles into our ride, we left the great state of Colorado and entered Kansas. Unfortunately, Kansas got off to a bad start. When we stopped to take a picture with the state sign bugs started immediately attacking us. No bugs in Colorado but lots of bugs just one step into Kansas. The state seems to be the home to millions of flies that like to bite! Today's guest rider is a crew member named John Farley. John is in normally in charge of finances for the team. With today's ride being over 100 miles he sure was ambitions in picking a day to ride along with us. We started the day off by taking bets on how far he would make it. I had faith and bet that we would make it all the way. Sure enough, he did it! John Farley's first time on a road bike and he rode over 100 miles! Once into town we had a small break then headed out to dinner. After yet another lunch on the road we were all ready for a big dinner. We had dinner sponsored for us by a Kansas State alum at the Golden Coral buffet. It was possibly the most food I have ate the entire trip. I just may have ate enough food to replenish the calories I burned during the days ride. For lodging we were once again spoiled by a great hotel room. The hotel had a hot tub that was just the thing we needed after the long day in the saddle.
