day 39
July 10th, 2007

So it turns out that Kansas is nearly completely flat and almost completely composed of either corn fields or stock yards. And because of the stock yards everything smells like cow poop. I think every truck that passes us is carrying the smelly fertilizer. Kansas is also home to an insane amount of bugs, most of which I am sure can be attributed to the stock yards as well. Today's ride was a short 55 miles and almost completely flat. Kansas does have some amazing roads. The shoulder we ride on is nearly more wide than the actual car lane which makes for some great relaxing riding. The roads are also smooth. After the short ride we pulled into Dodge City Community College (or DC3 as they like to call it) Lunch today was served to us at the dining hall at the college and was provided by the local chapter of a service fraternity. After lunch we were each given some money for dinner by the same sponsor that provided dinner last night. The rest of the day was free time. I decided to take a nap. After my nap a few of us went out to eat at a local restaurant that we thought would have the best food Dodge City could offer. After looking over the menu we made our meal selections but Mark asked the server what the term "calf fries" meant. she smiled and brought us a sample. After eating the deep fried chewy nuggets we reread the menu and noticed it also said "crown jewels of Kansas." that was when we all realized we had ate cow testicles. But dont worry we had Dary Queen for dessert!!
